Say Goodbye to the Double Chin!

Kybella, also known by its generic name deoxycholic acid, is an FDA-approved injectable treatment primarily used to reduce submental fat, commonly referred to as a "double chin." Submental fat is the fat that accumulates beneath the chin, creating the appearance of a fuller or double chin, and it can be a source of dissatisfaction for many individuals seeking a more defined jawline and profile.

Kybella works by disrupting the fat cells in the treated area. Deoxycholic acid, the active ingredient in Kybella, is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that helps with the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the submental fat, it breaks down the fat cells, leading to a gradual reduction in the volume of the fat pocket.

The treatment process generally involves the following steps:

  1. Consultation: You'll first consult with one of our nurses, to determine whether Kybella is a suitable treatment for you. They will assess your overall health, discuss your expectations, and evaluate the extent of submental fat.

  2. Treatment Plan: If Kybella is deemed appropriate, we will develop a personalized treatment plan based on your specific needs. The number of treatment sessions required will depend on the amount of submental fat, your body's response, and your desired results.

  3. Treatment Sessions: During the treatment session, the nurse will mark the injection sites on your chin. A series of small injections are then administered directly into the submental fat using a fine needle. The injections are strategically placed to evenly distribute the Kybella solution throughout the fat pocket.

  4. Injection Discomfort: Some patients may experience mild discomfort during the injections. However, we use topical numbing creams and/or local anesthesia to minimize any discomfort.

  5. Recovery: Kybella treatments typically require little to no downtime. You might experience some swelling, redness, or bruising at the injection sites, but these side effects are temporary and generally resolve within a few days to a couple of weeks.

  6. Results: Over the following weeks and months, the treated fat cells gradually break down and are naturally eliminated by the body's metabolic processes. You should start to notice a reduction in the appearance of your double chin as the fat volume decreases.

  7. Follow-Up Sessions: Depending on your individual response to treatment and your desired outcome, you may need multiple sessions spaced several weeks apart. Our nurses will help determine the optimal treatment plan for you.

It's important to note that Kybella is a medical procedure that should be performed by a qualified healthcare professional. Like any medical treatment, there are potential risks and side effects associated with Kybella, such as swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, or even more serious complications if not administered correctly.
